One of my favourite places to go camping although it can get very busy at peak times of the year
One of my favourite places to go camping although it can get very busy at peak times of the year
Spotted on the River Murray at Echuca on my way home today, the paddlesteamer Emmylou.

Launched in 1982, and fitted with an original 1906-vintage wood-fired Marshall and Sons steam engine, she's a replica of the passenger steamers which, along with cargo vessels, plied these waters for a hundred years, from the 1860s.

The last commercial paddlesteamer on the Murray ceased operations in the 1960s. Now the PS Emmylou and the PS Canberra, both operating out of Echuca, give tourists a unique taste of life on the river, as it was back in the days when roads were few and far between, and goods of all kinds were moved up and down the river by paddlesteamers just like the Emmylou.

If you're in Echuca, check out the PS Emmylou.
The Tocumwal Historic Bridge
The Tocumwal Rail Bridge over the Murray River was built in 1895 as a road bridge. When the railway arrived in 1908 it was strengthened and was used for both road and rail traffic until November 1987. A concrete road bridge was provided for road traffic a short distance upstream, with the old bridge used for rail traffic only since that time.
